PayPal
Send money, shop & manage finances

About this app
PayPal is one of the world's most established digital payment platforms, used by over 400 million people for online purchases, peer-to-peer payments, and business transactions. The mobile app brings the full PayPal experience to your phone. Send money to friends and family, pay for online purchases with buyer protection, manage your PayPal balance, and access PayPal Credit or Pay Later options. The app also supports in-store contactless payments via QR codes and crypto trading. PayPal's key advantage is its buyer protection policy. When you pay with PayPal, you're covered if items don't arrive or aren't as described — a level of protection that Venmo and Zelle don't offer.

Detailed Review
PayPal has been a digital payments pioneer since the early 2000s, and the mobile app reflects decades of evolution. It's not the sleekest or simplest payment app, but it's arguably the most capable.
The core strength is buyer protection. When you pay for goods or services through PayPal, you're covered by their Purchase Protection program. In our tests, filing a dispute for a never-delivered item resulted in a full refund within 10 business days. This alone makes PayPal worth having for online shopping.
Peer-to-peer transfers work well but feel dated compared to Venmo or Zelle. Sending money requires the recipient's email or phone number, and if they don't have PayPal, they receive an email invitation. Standard transfers to your bank take 1-3 business days; instant transfers cost 1.75% (max $25).
International transfers are where PayPal genuinely shines. Supporting 200+ countries with 25+ currencies, it's the most practical option for sending money abroad. Fees vary (typically 2-5% depending on the corridor), but the convenience and reliability are hard to beat.
The Pay Later feature splits purchases of $30-1,500 into four interest-free payments at checkout. In our testing, approval was instant and the experience at supported merchants was smooth. This is a genuine alternative to credit card interest for planned purchases.
The crypto integration lets you buy, sell, and hold Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and others directly within the app. It's basic compared to dedicated exchanges, but convenient for casual crypto interest.
The app's main weakness is complexity. PayPal does so much that the interface can feel cluttered. Finding specific features sometimes requires digging through menus. And the customer service experience, particularly for account holds or limitations, remains a common complaint in user reviews.

Our Verdict
PayPal is the most versatile payment app available. Its buyer protection alone justifies having it installed for online shopping. For peer-to-peer payments, Venmo (owned by PayPal) or Zelle may be simpler, but for anything involving purchases or international transfers, PayPal is unmatched.
