Detailed Review
DoorDash dominates the US food delivery market with roughly 65% market share, and our testing confirms why: it consistently has the most restaurants available and the most reliable delivery network.
The app experience is polished. Searching for food is organized by cuisine type, dietary preference, delivery time, and rating. Each restaurant listing shows the menu with photos, estimated delivery time, delivery fee, and user rating. In our tests, estimated delivery times were accurate within 5 minutes about 80% of the time.
DashPass ($9.99/month) is practically mandatory for regular users. Without it, delivery fees ($2-6) plus service fees (10-15% of order) plus tip make a $15 meal cost $25-30. With DashPass, you eliminate delivery fees on orders over $12 from eligible restaurants, which covers about 70% of listings in our test area.
The live tracking feature works well. You can see when the Dasher arrives at the restaurant, when they pick up your food, and their real-time location en route. The 'Leave at door' option with photo confirmation has become standard post-pandemic and works reliably.
Group ordering is genuinely useful. Share a link, let everyone add their own items, and the order is placed as one delivery. Each person can pay their share or one person can cover it. This feature alone makes DoorDash the go-to for office lunches.
The downsides are primarily financial. Restaurant prices on DoorDash are typically 15-30% higher than dining in or ordering directly. Combined with fees and a reasonable tip, you're paying a significant premium for convenience. For a family ordering dinner, DoorDash can easily cost $20-30 more than picking up the food yourself.
Delivery quality varies. Most orders arrive hot and properly packed, but we had a few instances of missing items (DoorDash credited the order) and one cold delivery. The platform's quality control depends on individual Dashers and restaurants.

Our Verdict
DoorDash is the most comprehensive food delivery app in the US. Its restaurant selection is unmatched, and DashPass is essential if you order delivery regularly. Just be aware that the total cost (fees + markup + tip) often doubles the menu price.
