Grubhub has been in the food delivery game longer than most competitors, and that experience shows in its restaurant relationships. Many local restaurants list exclusively on Grubhub or offer better deals on the platform compared to DoorDash or Uber Eats.

The app itself is clean and functional. Restaurant browsing is organized intuitively, with filters for cuisine, price, rating, and dietary needs. Menu pages load quickly and include photos for most items at popular restaurants. The ordering flow is straightforward with clear pricing.

Grubhub+ ($9.99/month) mirrors DoorDash's DashPass offering: $0 delivery fees on orders over $12. In our area, about 60% of restaurants qualified for free delivery with Grubhub+, compared to about 70% with DashPass. The perks program is the differentiator — Grubhub regularly offers free items, percentage discounts, and bonus rewards.

Delivery reliability was a mixed bag. In metro areas, most deliveries arrived within the estimated window. But in suburban areas, we experienced longer wait times and two instances of orders being reassigned to different drivers mid-delivery. Food quality on arrival was generally good.

The pickup option is worth highlighting. Ordering through Grubhub for pickup often includes discounts not available for delivery, and service fees are lower. For restaurants within driving distance, this can save $5-10 per order.

The main limitation is selection and coverage. In most markets, DoorDash simply has more restaurants available. If you can only have one food delivery app, DoorDash is the safer bet. But Grubhub earns its place as a second app for its exclusive restaurants, deals, and loyalty rewards.
